Dermal Fillers

What treatments are available?

I currently offer Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to improve the appearance of lines and folds around the nose, mouth and chin, to rejuvenate the area around the eyes and to 'lift' the face and reverse the signs of aging. Dermal fillers when used in specific areas, can create volume and lift to reduce some of the sagging that is brought about by aging, sometimes referred to as a 'liquid face lift', '8 point face lift' or 'non-surgical facelift'. I also use dermal fillers to enhance the lips, cheeks, chin and nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty/nose job). The fillers work by creating volume, hydrating and plumping up the skin in the treated area. I only use top quality dermal fillers such as Juvederm in my clinic. Radiesse (a collagen stimulator) gives excellent results for definition and contouring of the jawline.

Is the treatment suitable for everyone?

I offer a free, no obligation initial consultation at which I will do an assessment and we will discuss your hopes for the treatment and any concerns you may have.  As the fillers are carefully selected and prescribed depending on the treatment required, you will usually need to return for a second appointment to receive the treatment.  I will only offer treatment if I am confident the desired affect is realistic and achievable.  Pregnant or breast feeding women  should not receive this treatment. Those with certain medical conditions or taking medications that thin the blood may not be suitable for treatment. If you have an active infection such as a cold sore or acne at the site of treatment, you would need to wait until it has healed before proceeding.

Are there any side effects or risks to the treatment?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule found in all skin and soft tissue throughout the body.  It attracts water in to the tissues providing volume and hydration and also cushions and supports the collagen and elastin fibres.  This natural substance  is reabsorbed by the body over time and therefore the treatment is temporary. I use a local anaesthetic cream to reduce the discomfort of the treatment and the fillers also contain local anaesthetic themselves.  There may be some bruising, pin prick marks or possibly swelling especially with lip treatments which may be more apparent the day after treatment. If there is an issue with the result of the treatment, an injection can be administered to dissolve and therefore remove the filler in the problem area.

How long does the treatment last?

The fillers used are carefully selected depending on the site of treatment. The longevity of the treatment varies accordingly but usually lasts around 6-12 months. Often people find that subsequent treatments require less product to achieve the desired effect.  The effect of the treatment can be seen immediately. Over the following 2 weeks the fillers attract water and further plumps up the area slightly. With lip enhancement, there is often initial swelling that will settle.

Is there any down time after treatment?

You should not do any exercise or drink alcohol on the day of the treatment.  No makeup should be worn for 12 hours after treatment.  Avoid facials, laser treatment, chemical peels or sun beds for 2 weeks after treatment.  These measures are to reduce the duration of swelling and help bruising settle.  Cold packs can be used to reduce swelling.  The product often feels hard and lumpy initially but over the next few weeks this settles and softens up. If you are wanting to have treatment for a special occasion, I would recommend you book the treatment at least 2 weeks before the event to ensure any bruising has settled and the final effect is reached.
